The most famous example is ‘So What’ from Kind of Blue, which utilises his understated, mid-register trumpet sound to brilliant effect in one of his best-loved solos. Wayne Shorter is one of jazz’s most recorded composers and, like Hancock, was a member of Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet.
